As a former sleep technologist, the majority of patients I saw who slept with pets at home slept better without them in the lab and reported as much in their follow ups. Granted, my observation is anecdotal, and I understand that some people with extreme anxiety do need a pet to relax at night, but I'm not yet convinced that pets are a sleep saver.
