The dancer in the video has narcolepsy. She is trying to make a dance instruction video, but her narcolepsy with cataplexy is completely interrupting her efforts. This is not an act, but an educational effort on her part to share what it is like to live with this debilitating disorder.
Though awareness about narcolepsy has improved over the last few years, most people still associate the sleep disorder with the comic antics of Mr. Magoo and find it amusing. However, this disorder from the family of hypersomnias is lifelong and has no cure; the few medications available to treat it only offer some assistance in controlling its symptoms. Many who suffer from it do not disclose that they have this condition for fear of judgment, of losing their job, of of being socially embarrassed.
