GERD sufferers may want to participate in a new study which includes a cost-free, minimally invasive procedure to prevent reflux, especially during sleep. This clinical trial offered by UC San Diego Health features use of a new FDA-approved device that helps to reconstruct the esophagus without surgical incision. Researchers are looking for participants who are at least 18 years old and the study is expected to last three years while data is collected on the new device. Subjects interested in enrolling should call 619.471.0447 or e-mail misresearch@ucsd.edu

NEW STUDY: “Does the Utilization of a Sleep Application Diary Improve Sleep Hygiene in Adolescents?” The purpose of this study, sponsored by the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, is to determine whether adolescents can advance bedtime above what can be accomplished through counseling if they used sleep diaries with regular medical consultation instead. Researchers are looking for participants who are male or female, ages 12 to 17, who have access to a smart phone (iPhone or Android), have proven poor sleep hygiene as defined by a sleep disorder clinic and have been seen by a pediatric sleep specialist. Subjects interested in enrolling should call Cheryl Tierney, MD, MPH, at 717.531.8414 or send an email to ctierney@hmc.psu.edu
