Restless Legs Awareness Day
Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) (also known as Willis-Ekbom disease or WED) is a neurologic condition in which one has an irresistible urge to move the legs, often accompanied by uncomfortable sensations. Three percent of adults are significantly impaired by RLS. While RLS can happen at any time of day, when it occurs at night, it can be extremely disrtuptive to the sufferer's sleep patterns and can rob them of the deep sleep necessary for good health. RLS can also have a devastating impact on work, relationships, and one's quality of life, and it has no cure. It can be controlled through lifestyle changes and some medications. September 23 is also the birthday of renowned RLS researcher Dr. Karl Axel Ekbom. More information
